Conor McGregor responds to allegations of sexual assault

In an open-hearted interview with ESPN, the controversial sexual assault allegations were finally addressed by Conor McGregor

It’s fight week, and MMA fans are now fully focused on UFC 246. However there is another dark aspect looming over the return of Conor McGregor – The sexual assault allegations.

It was in October of last year, that The New York Times revealed that McGregor was being investigated for sexual assault in his hometown of Dublin. While UFC president Dana White and McGregor’s manager Audie Attar have both spoken out about the issue, McGregor himself has remained quiet. That changed, though, in a recent interview with ESPN‘s Ariel Helwani, who brought up the allegations, garnering a response from McGregor.

“I can’t say anything about this. It just has to take place, right?” McGregor said calmly. “Time. Patience is a skill we must master. Patience is one of the most valuable skills a human being must master. I am working hard to master it, and I feel I am getting there. Time will show all. That’s it right now. I’m focused on the belt. I’m focused on positivity, good thoughts.”

When Helwani pressed the issue further, McGregor formally denied the allegations.

“Yes, of course [I deny the allegations]. Of course. Seriously,” he said. “Time, please. Time will reveal all. That’s it.”

While he did formally deny the accusations, we still don’t have much information to go on regarding the allegations. 2019 was marred by controversy for McGregor. He dealt with repercussions for the infamous 229 bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, which resulted in violence outside of the cage. He also assaulted a 50 year old man at a Dublin bar, which was a damning moment for most in the MMA community.

Regardless, fans are glad to see McGregor out of court, and back in the cage.
